Benno Moiseiwitsch CBE 22 February 1890 9 April 1963 was a RussianUkrainian born British pianist. Born in Odessa, Russian Empire, in present-day Ukraine, Moiseiwitsch began his studies at age seven with Dmitry Klimov at the Odessa Music Academy. He won the Anton Rubinstein Prize when he was just nine years old. He studied with Theodor Leschetizky in Vienna from 1904 to 1908, then joined his own family in England, making his English debut at Reading in 1908, his London debut the following year. At the age of seven Benno began piano lessons with Dmitri Klimov at the Imperial School of Music in Odessa and two years later won the Anton Rubinstein Prize at the age of nine. Moiseiwitsch made his official debut in Reading in 1908 and his London debut fourteen months later. The Bechstein Hall later Wigmore Hall recital was a great success and his career was launched. An LP of Beethoven contains the Piano Sonata in E flat Op. 81a Les Adieux, and the third record is of Mussorgskys Pictures at an Exhibition and Schumanns Carnaval Op. Benno Moiseiwitsch was born in the cradle of Russian pianism Odessa, in 1890. At the age of nine he won the Anton Rubinstein prize, and after being told by the Guildhall School of Music in London that they could teach him nothing, he went, at the age of fourteen, to Vienna where he studied with the great teacher Theodore Leschetizky. Three days later on 24th October, Moiseiwitsch performed Beethovens Piano Concerto No. 4 in G major, Op. 58, at the Queens Hall again with George Szell conducting.
