30th Anniversary Edition of the 1985 Classic Debut LP + Three 12" EPs on 180gm Vinyl.Originally released in 1985.
In July 1985, Warner-Pioneer Corporation in Japan released a version of the album that contained different mixes of some tracks ("Black Planet" features slightly different instrumentation and is 10 seconds longer, "No Time to Cry" features different opening and ending instrumentation and sound effects, "A Rock and a Hard Place" features additional guitar tracks and a slightly different drum track, while "First and Last and Always" features a totally different drum track as well as a totally different arrangement and has an intro which is 15 seconds longer; the remaining tracks are identical to the standard vinyl release). Yes, HD track has the first and last and always album with the missing body electric track! Finally I got a decent original digital version of my all time favorite track ????

Still have my download voucher from the boxed set. Having problems to find the right way to redeem it. No such problems in the past...
Malaris
Has anyone else purchased the LP only? I got the same barcode and the same matrix number, but no EPs in the package.

Prefer the 2006 remastered version of the 2006 Red Rhino: sound space much larger, and more precise details (that you do not hear in this 2015 reedition). It's very easy to read the difference on "Poison Door" intro, or "Marian".

Excellent boxed set, vinyl plays and sounds great. Note, that the box distributed in the U.S. does not include a download code. No issues with production quality as it seems to be the same as the European set. Also of note, singles are 45 rpm, I expected as much but troublesome for my setup as I have to remove the platter to play.
Lamranilv
Great box: carefully remastered (no excessive compressing), very nice and clean pressing, flat, centered, no surface noise, heavy covers, incl. download. There is nothing to be missed here, a must for every collector.
Reighbyra
My version did not come with a download card.

The good news is that box really looks great and the 12 inches comes with there original sleeve art work. I already have the 12 inches but without the art work. The sound is almost like the original albums. Now for the bad news. The box comes with a voucher for one complete digital download. So for the very first time you can download the Body and Soul 12 inch and obtain the 3 missing tracks that where never digital available before. I'm talking about the tracks. Body Electric (1984 version), Train and Afterhours (Body And Soul track was available on the greatest hits volume 1 CD).Here the bad thing starts. My all time favorite Sisters of Mercy track is the 1984 version of Body Electric. The digital download doesn't have the 1984 version of Body Electric...You guessed it, it's the original 1982 version. Aaggghhh. Will there ever be a digital version of 1984 version of the Body Electric??
Akinozuru
Okay, I never heard the rumour. But it explains a lot. Years ago I already ripped the EP in flac. I just wanted it in it’s original digital form. Maybe I will buy the digital download if it’s possible.
Ranterl
The rumour is that the EP was cut too hot which is why Eldritch's scream on BE is turned down in the mix, and why the guitars on Afterhours are distorted. For this reason Eldritch was reluctant to put them out digitally. You could just find a decent quality needledrop on YouTube and rip them to MP4 there.
Fearlessdweller
SOM did re-recording of body electric in 1984. De original 1982 version can be found on a compilation cd "some girls..." Anyhow the 1984 version is still not officially released in any digital form.
Cae
No, the 1984 version of body electric never appeared on any official CD. Probably there's also no use ordering it through a digital download. Changes might be that you will get the 1982 version. The 1982 version sounds like a demo (very poor recording). So there's still one piece of the puzzle missing in the total digital discography of the sisters of mercy.....
Bandiri
How is it the original 1982 version? Doesn't an actual copy of Body Electric appear on an actual compact disc?
Mohn
Not impressed with mfsl on this one. It's not bad but it's not something impressive at the same time.
Rolling Flipper
My copy of this release is so noisy that I can't wait to offload it. I have already purchased a replacement (different pressing). The sound is thin and the vinyl is clicky throughout, Bad pressing? I contacted Mobile fidelity and I was actually told by a cust serv rep at Mobile Fidelity that the record will sound better and have less clicks after a few plays. WTF.
riki
My copy of this is dead quiet, and sounds pretty good. Not sure if there was a consistency issue, but I can report that it isn't a problem here.
Mogelv
I have this exact Silver series pressing and my findings differ greatly from previous reviewers. This has to be one of the worst pressings I not only own but have ever listened to. Having owned a lot of the original Merciful releases in the UK I am well aware of the 'budget' production Eldridge and Co. put into their releases so I was hoping for good things with this especially as my Dead Can Dance MFSL release is stunning. The pressing I own is thin and extremely rolled off in the lower mid and bass frequencies. High frequency range is shrill and bright and the worst thing is that both sides sound completely different. One side is a lot worse than the other.I was a high end audio distributor and re-seller when I lived in the UK and had a top flight audio system so I was not playing vinyl back on any budget system. Deck was a fully modified Nottingham Analogue Spacedeck (every NAS modification available), fitted with an Ace arm and Lyra cartridge.Information retrieval from this turntable was stunning and as I previously stated, another MFSL release was truly breathtaking on this turntable. I did play this Sisters MFSL release to a few friends and Sisters fans and they all agreed with me on how bad this pressing sounds.Once my collection arrives in the USA from the UK I will take a close look at the runouts to see if there are any further clues.Maybe a bad day at the office...mastering studio?!
Brazil
Heh... It's very interesting to read your review since I felt the EXACT same way about the MFSL pressing of Floodland. My reaction was IDENTICAL to what you said: Likely THE worst MFSL pressing I'd ever heard for the same reasons. And YES, the Dead Can Dance album by them is exquisite. Interesting... After the absolutely HORRIBLE sound of Floodland, I don't think I would've chanced this one either... Excellent review, BTW!
KiddenDan
Completely agree, It sounds like muffled without any force, less strident than original one, but I can't see any improvement at all
Funny duck
I have been kind of skeptical of the whole Mobile Fidelity Labs cult of record collectors but this release is amazing. I have listened to this record since the 80's and this is the best it has ever sounded.
Ionzar
An all time favourite, I've played the original album hundreds of times but this, this is like hearing it on a whole new level, so much more is revealed & a perfect pressing too.
Ƀ⁞₳⁞Ð Ƀ⁞Ǿ⁞Ɏ
This seems essentially to be the same as the "Japanese" WEA CD release - but the sound is so much clearer in the middle to high frequencies. You can hear stuff on this release that is not so apparent on the other masterings. The original UK pressing is the most raw but this one is more musical. You need both.
