Adore is the fourth studio album by the American alternative rock band the Smashing Pumpkins, released on June 2, 1998 by Virgin Records. Adore marked a change in sound for The Smashing Pumpkins Greg Kot of Rolling Stone magazine noted that the album isn't just a transitional record it's a complete break with the past. Their previously layered, guitar-oriented sound was largely replaced by a quieter and more electronic influenced sound, and incorporat. Simply put, this was an album that offered something entirely new to the Pumpkins catalog. The album was indeed different compared to the music that came to define the band in the early to mid 90s. Adore relies very little on the use of guitars, a complete departure from their two previous multi-platinum and award-winning albums. The Smashing Pumpkins' fourth album is the latest to get the lavish reissue treatment, with five discs of bonus material. With Adore, Billy Corgan made an album nearly as diverse, sprawling, and confounding as Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness, which was the exact opposite of what he set out to do. It seems that in copies that have been recently pressed, there is a defect on the first track of side D, "Behold! The Night Mare". At around 3:46 seconds, there is a repetitive "pop" that can be heard for about 10 seconds, every rotation. I have received multiple replacements ALL with the same issue in the same exact spot. These copies have come from both my local record store and Amazon. So it seems like a large batch is affected by this defect. Can anyone else confirm? I'm trying to find a copy without this defect.

besides a few minor details that don't affect the playback quality, i think this is a very solid remaster and pressing. Didn't deep clean the discs (just dusted them off with a pad) and they sounded almost noiseless.

Great reissue. For being a mostly acoustic/soft record, there is virtually no surface noise and everything sounds punchy and clear. Never understood why this record got so much hate back when it was released. It's quickly becoming one of my favourite SP records.

Excellent sounding remaster. Loud and full, while still keeping the dynamics in tact. This pressing has a bit of surface crackle, which does become a bit distracting during some of the quieter passages.The packaging is quite nice. It uses the original vinyl’s far superior cover art (compared to the CD), but in a foil version. While I prefer the vibrant red of the original vinyl cover, this is the best looking foil cover of all of the reissues. Very thick sleeve which won’t be prone to damage, but is a bit tight. You can definitely get the records in and out, but it takes a little bit of work.Definitely recommended, especially to those who also consider this to be far and away the best Smashing Pumpkins album.

I'm not a fan of the foil covers, as they get dirty quick. It looks glossy, but the touch is not. The spine is fat like a book, so a regular record bag won't work. It's very difficult to remove and enter the inner sleeves due to the design (stuff all the extras between the gatefold). As other have said, my copy was very dirty and scratched up pretty good out of the package... kind of shocking.

I ended up returning the one with the missing LP and took a chance ordering it online from Amazon and thankfully everything was as it should be. I think it was $10 less online too so win win all around.

Yes! Same case with mine, disc 2 was missing. I also returned it to the shop and got a second copy that had disc 2. So it seems like getting the second disc or not will be down to luck. (Weirdly, I wrote about it in a comment here too and came back just now to see if anyone had replied, only to find my review has since been deleted by someone! If your comment is also deleted we know there is a conspiracy going on!)

I tried working it out with UME first, but after a week of no responses I contacted the record store where I bought it from. Luckily they were willing to take it back, I was refunded with store credit. They said they could send it back to the distributor as defective. Since then I ordered a copy from Amazon, which was on sale for $13 less than the store price, and everything was as it should be. So I guess I won this round

Mine was factory sealed too, but when I opened it, one of the LPs has some kind of crud in the middle of the grooves, so the needle jumps at that spot. It won't come off with cleaning. After spending a solid month trying to figure out who to contact and getting some rude emails I gave up. If you make any head way please let me know

Stunning foil cover to this reissue album. It seems to be a stereo mix, making it a different edition to the original mono lps. But it must be said that the stereo effects are small, and most of it sounds pretty mono. ~*~

Remaster sounds pretty darn good.. my only previous experience was with the cd mono mix and this is a whole new experience.. bleeps and bloops I never knew existed. Kinda want the mono mix too, for old times sake.
